Best Long-Range Smartphone

After 6 hours of comparative analysis among 7 famous models, it is Xiaomi's Mi Note 10 that takes the top of our ranking.

Xiaomi mi note 10

As always, Xiaomi manages to optimize the autonomy of its devices as much as possible, which makes it possible to enjoy, on average, a day and a half of endurance. The Mi Note 10 further improves the result and even manages, in the best case, to reach a maximum of almost 3 days! This in no way impedes its capacities which allow it to be one of the best photophones of the moment .

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S

Versatile and high-quality, this model is a good example of a balanced smartphone. It is perfectly in line with the brand's smartphones even if its positioning may seem a little vague.

The Note 9S takes everything you can look for on a smartphone in this price range by combining exceptional autonomy with very good fluidity and a pleasant grip. Admittedly, its photo part is not perfect but this observation is very common for this budget. When compared to its brothers, it arises as the intermediate solution between the Note 9 and the Note 9 Pro .

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

A new version of the brand's top-of-the-range, it combines many advantages that allow it to proudly hang out at the top of the podium for current smartphones.

With its huge 120Hz AMOLED display, super high performance and highly efficient photo module, it's amazing how the S20 Ultra is a really good example of endurance. However, it can easily last a full day despite varied use. This result can be greatly improved if you choose to reduce the refresh rate. The S20 and S20 + are just as good even if they are less efficient than their big brother.

Motorola Moto G8 Power

With its huge battery, this smartphone is one of the most enduring on the market, which allows it to be used for nearly 3 days without fear of running out of fuel.

Although it has a significant advantage, the Moto 8 Power conceals several other flaws. Thus, we quickly see that its ergonomics can be problematic because of its overweight and that its performance, although honorable, remains very limited when compared to its direct competitors. This does not prevent it from being an interesting solution for those who seek autonomy before anything else.

Realme X50 Pro

Even if its endurance puts it in the upper middle of smartphones, this model is not the best on this point. It mainly stands out thanks to its extremely fast charge.

Operating under the same principle as Xiaomi, Realme ensures the balance of its smartphones by combining high performance and interesting autonomy. However, unlike its competitor, the X50 Pro relies more on fast charging, which allows it to top up in less than 30 minutes. These results are in large part aided by the brand's careful software optimization.

Apple iphone 11

With its latest model, Apple proves that it is able to offer a smartphone that lasts without sacrificing other features. Thanks to this, it is at the level of its competitors.

The iPhone 11 is equipped with the latest components of the brand to offer very high performance in a neat and ergonomic case. Many optimizations come as a bonus to boost its endurance, which easily reaches two days of use. Its more expensive versions, the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max , further improve this recipe thanks to a beefier accumulator.

How did we make our choice?

In the world of smartphones, it is often difficult to find a model that offers both a good quality / performance ratio and a decent autonomy of more than a day. However, in recent years, manufacturers have focused more and more on this point, which makes it a little easier to find happiness.

To choose the ideal model, it is still necessary to pay attention to the following criteria:

Autonomy: the main flaw of our dear smartphones, it is greatly influenced by various characteristics and the settings you choose. Thus, using the automatic brightness mode allows, for example, to optimize the balance between the comfort and the energy consumption of your screen. Along the same lines, you can set the system so that certain apps (such as Facebook or Instagram) do not run in the background. As you will have understood, the result is therefore strongly influenced by your use and the settings you have made beforehand.

The screen: the size and technology used influence the energy impact of the smartphone. Thus, a larger slab will generally reduce the runtime (compared to a smaller slab for equal capacity). Depending on the range chosen, you will be entitled either to the IPS, pleasant and fairly common, or to the OLED, much more efficient and reserved for more expensive models. This technology is also the least energy consuming.

Performance : to determine the capabilities of your device, you need to focus on the processor - RAM memory pair. Together, they make up the brain of your device and determine how quickly different tasks are performed. A powerful processor makes it possible to extend the possibilities of your smartphone, while the RAM rather manages the multitasking. For the latter, a capacity of at least 4 GB is strongly recommended, even if we recommend betting on 6 GB for more convenience.

Photo quality : good shots are determined by the ability of the lens (s) to effectively capture the scene. To do this, we focus on brightness, contrast and color resolution. A high number of megapixels is also very interesting to take advantage of a higher level of detail. If the photo quality of your device is an essential criterion, do not hesitate to consult our comparison dedicated to photophones .

After having gone through numerous tests carried out on the Internet, analyzed the technical sheet of each product, consulted the opinions of French and English speaking users while ensuring the legitimacy of these comments, we were able to determine which are the 6 best large smartphones. autonomy of the moment.

The Note 10 further improves the result and even manages to reach a maximum of almost 3 days! This in no way impedes its capacities which allow it to be one of the best photophones of the moment .

Its endurance is one of the best at the moment, despite very good performances. The accumulator is no stranger to this result thanks to its enormous capacity of 5260 mAh. Charging is not the fastest on the market and it will take a little over 2 hours to refuel.

On the screen side, you are entitled to a neat 6.5 ”AMOLED panel. After a short passage through the parameters (temperature on “hot”, “default” profile), an excellent calibration is observed. Its high brightness and contained reflectance complete this attractive picture.

Xiaomi has accustomed us to careful ergonomics and this Mi Note 10 is no exception to the rule, even if it is quite bulky (157.8 x 74.2 x 9.67 mm - 206 g). Biometric unlocking can be done either via 2D facial recognition or the fingerprint sensor under the screen. These two solutions are fast and efficient even if the first solution is less secure than the 3D solutions that you find at Huawei or Apple .

Performance is ensured by a Snapdragon 730G coupled with 6 GB of RAM. This allows it a great versatility which should correspond to the majority of users. It is certainly not at the level of the 865 of the same brand but remains amply sufficient.

Let's close this description with its strong point: the photo. It shows in this area as much ease as the Huawei P30 Pro , long considered THE benchmark in this area. The module here consists of five sensors for high versatility. Thus, there is a main lens of 108 Mpx, an ultra wide angle of 20 Mpx, telephoto lenses x2 (12 Mpx) and x5 (5 Mpx) and a macro of 2 Mpx.

Everything is excellent both during the day, with a natural and detailed rendering, and at night, where the smoothing does not alter the final result. The main objective remains the best of the lot and must be favored in complex conditions.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S

Admittedly, its photo part is not perfect but this observation is very common for this budget. When compared to its brothers, it arises as the intermediate solution between the Note 9 and the Note 9 Pro .

It is equipped with a 5020 mAh accumulator which allows it nearly 3 full days of autonomy. Fast charging is just as interesting with a compatibility up to 30 W. Unfortunately, the supplied battery is limited to 20 W, which allows all the same to top up in about 1h30.

A 6.67 ”IPS FHD + panel is provided for the display. It offers very good overall rendering thanks to good color fidelity (dE 1.3) and more than adequate contrast for this technology (1247: 1). The brightness levels are also interesting both at their maximum and their minimum.

True to its philosophy, Xiaomi has taken care of the ergonomics of its phone with a very good placement of the buttons and a pleasant grip. The fingerprint sensor, located on the edge, is responsive and precise, which allows the device to be unlocked in the blink of an eye. The back is covered with mineral glass for a much more flattering look. Its only flaw is related to the placement of the volume buttons, a little too high.

To manage your tasks, the Note 9S is equipped with a Snapdragon 720G, a little less powerful than the Helio G90T present on the Note 8 Pro. It can be paired with 4 GB (64 GB) or 6 GB of RAM (128 GB of storage). We advise you to favor the latter solution in order to benefit from a good fluidity in multitasking and even in game (with some graphic concessions).

The photo aspect, finally, is the most disappointing aspect due, in part, to the main 48 MP lens, taken directly from the base Note 9 . On the other hand, the rest of the sensors come from the Note 9 Pro . The whole provides correct results which remain usable even if one can easily notice a lack of sharpness and contrasts a little too accentuated. At night, the situation is the same, which leads to a loss of details.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

A new version of the brand's top-of-the-range, it combines many advantages that allow it to proudly hang out at the top of the podium for current smartphones.

With its huge 120Hz AMOLED display, super high performance and highly efficient photo module, it's amazing how the S20 Ultra is a very good example of endurance. However, it can easily last a full day despite varied use. This result can be greatly improved if you choose to reduce the refresh rate to 60Hz. The S20 and S20 + are a little less good and the deflated version even acts as a poor student.

With its 5000 mAh battery, the Ultra has endurance which can be both mediocre (1 day with 120 Hz and 5G) or very good if these parameters are reduced (a little over 2 days ). At the high end, it is not uncommon to see lower results than at the lower ranges because of the onboard power. Fast charging is also a boost with compatibility up to 45 W (adapter supplied limited to 25 W).

These results are quite satisfactory when we know that the S20 Ultra is equipped with a 6.9 ”QHD + panel whose refresh rate reaches the incredible value of 120 Hz. The calibration is of course perfect and the fluidity, flawless. . In addition, its edges thinned to the maximum reinforce the impression of holding only one screen in hand.

However, this negatively impacts the ergonomics with a phone which is quite simply enormous (76 x 166.9 x 8.8mm - 220g). Fortunately, the OneUI overlay is perfectly suited to large diagonals. The fingerprint sensor, under the screen, is perfectly positioned.

As for performance, we are entitled to the best with the Exynos 990 and its 12 GB of RAM. They are backed up by 128 GB of storage (expandable via microSD). All this allows it to carry out any task, even if it is placed behind the Snapdragon 865. This processor ensures 5G and Wi-Fi 6 compatibility.

In the photo, it offers itself a triple module of 108 (12 Mpx shots via nona bining), 12 and 48 Mpx coupled to a ToF module. With this set, it gains the ability to record in 8K at 30 fps.

To sum up its capabilities, it's very simple: whatever the objective, the results are excellent, in all situations. Lovers of details will particularly appreciate the 108 Mpx mode and the various integrated zooms (5x, 10x and 100x digital).

Motorola Moto G8 Power

With its huge battery, this smartphone is one of the most enduring on the market, which allows it to be used for nearly 3 days without fear of running out of fuel.

Although it has a significant advantage, the G8 Power conceals several other flaws. Thus, we quickly see that its ergonomics can be problematic because of its overweight and that its performance, although honorable, remains very limited when compared to its direct competitors. This does not prevent it from being an interesting solution for those who seek autonomy before anything else.

To do this, it uses a 5000 mAh accumulator. Combined with an energy-efficient processor, this allows it to withstand almost 3 full days. However, the brand limits the load to 18 W which only allows you to top it up in just over 2 hours.

The display is provided by a good quality 6.4 ”FHD + IPS panel. However, we still note a calibration that would have deserved more attention with a color temperature that is far too high and a colorimetry not very faithful. On the other hand, the contrast is very good (for this type of panel). The brightness itself is correct at its maximum level but far too high at its minimum which reduces comfort in low light.

Its ergonomics are quite mixed. Indeed, if its imposing size (156 x 75.8 x 9.6 mm) and its high weight (197 g) are unfavorable to it, the positioning of the buttons, the photo module and the fingerprint sensor are well thought out. The latter is, moreover, particularly pleasant and responsive.

To manage your tasks, it has a Snapdragon 665 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage expandable via microSD. This set is a bit weak when compared to the big names in the range (like its competitor, the Note 9S). As a result, the result is barely correct in multi-tasking and quite limited for heavy tasks like gaming.

The photo part does not correct the shooting. Indeed, even if there is a module composed of four lenses (16 Mpx, 8 Mpx ultra wide-angle, 8 Mpx 2x telephoto lens and 2 Mpx macro), few shots will be really usable and it will be necessary to focus on the main sensor under favorable conditions to obtain a barely correct result.

Realme X50 Pro

Even if its endurance puts it in the upper middle of smartphones, this model is not the best on this point. It mainly stands out thanks to its extremely fast charge.

630.00 € at Amazon

Operating under the same principle as Xiaomi, Realme ensures the balance of its smartphones by combining high performance and interesting autonomy. These results are in large part aided by the brand's careful software optimization.

It has a battery with a capacity of 4200 mAh. It may seem a little light when compared to its competitors but it allows it to last on average 2 days. But its real asset is its super powerful fast charge which allows it to refuel in less than 30 minutes! Suffice to say that you rarely risk running out of fuel.

The display is managed by a 6.44 ”AMOLED FHD + panel. It is clocked at 90 Hz and HDR10 + compatible. This guarantees high display quality and excellent fluidity. Moreover, after going through the parameters (soft mode - semi-warm), we can see a very good calibration (color temperature close to ideal and delta E of 2.6). Its only flaw is its slightly high minimum brightness, which is uncomfortable in a dark environment.

Its ergonomics can also be improved due, in particular, to its large size (159 x 74.2 x 8.9 mm - 205 g). Fortunately, the placement of the buttons and the shape of his back means that he doesn't feel these problems too much. The quality of finish is also neat.

On the performance side, he equips himself with the best that he can do, which allows him to place himself at the top of the ranking in terms of performance. On the menu: Snapdragon 865 and 8 (128 GB) or 12 GB of RAM (256 GB of storage). It also embeds the brand's Game Space, which further optimizes in-game performance.

The photo, on the other hand, is quite disappointing compared to its competitors. Indeed, although it embeds a triple sensor module (wide angle 64 Mpx, ultra wide-angle 8 Mpx and telephoto 2x 12 Mpx), the X50 Pro cannot convince. It indeed offers results close to what we find on the X2 Pro of the lower range. The result is correct and sufficiently detailed pictures but… nothing more.

Apple iphone 11

With its latest model, Apple proves that it is able to offer a smartphone that lasts without sacrificing other features. Thanks to this, it is at the level of its competitors.

See price on Amazon

The iPhone 11 is equipped with the latest components of the brand to offer very high performance in a neat and ergonomic case. Many optimizations come as a bonus to boost its endurance. Its more expensive versions, the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max , further improve this recipe thanks to a beefier accumulator.

Indeed, that of the iPhone 11 is limited to 3110 mAh (against 3969 for the Pro Max). This does not however prevent it from coming to titillate the best Android smartphones , with an endurance of 2 days. However, Apple is still content to integrate a charger limited to 5 W, which induces a full charge in 3 hours!

The display is entrusted to a very qualitative 6.1 ”(326 dpi) IPS panel. The contrast is very good for this technology (1564: 1) but remains limited in the face of the infinity of the OLED. The colorimetry is still excellent (dE 1.7) and the color temperature adapts to your environment for optimal comfort.

The ergonomics are quite usual for apple lovers with a relatively compact smartphone (even if little usable with one hand). However, we quickly notice that the borders could have been better optimized so that it is barely 2 mm lower than the Pro Max and its 6.5 ”panel. As a bonus, a large notch is still present for FaceID. The set is IP68 certified (30 min in 2 m of water).

Power side, we end up with the best processor on the market, any brand of smartphone combined. This model is none other than the brand's A13 Bionic. It is here coupled with 4 GB of RAM which allows, thanks to the optimizations of iOS, to benefit from an unfailing fluidity. This chip also allows it to be compatible with Wi-Fi 6.

In the photo, we are entitled to a dual lens module (2 x 12 Mpx) including an ultra wide angle. Both are effective in good light conditions. However, when the light is lacking, they are placed behind the best on the market even if the shots remain perfectly usable with the main objective.

Honorable mentions

OnePlus 8 (€ 586.90 at the time of publication): the famous flagship killer returns in its 8th version. It continues to tickle the giants of the market thanks to studied software optimizations and an interesting quality / price ratio. It is indeed equipped with latest generation components and a photo part which improves on the previous version. But it would not have its place in this article without its autonomy worthy of the name which allows it to withstand nearly 2 full days.

Xiaomi Mi 10 (599 € at the time of publication): this model tops the range of the brand by embedding the latest components to date, including the famous Snapdragon 865, a studied photo part and an excellent screen. It combines these good elements with an autonomy of more than 2 days in normal use and a fast charge which allows it to refuel in less than an hour. However, such a high capacity impacts its size, which slightly deteriorates the handling of the whole.
